Day 5 - Following Jesus Leads to Work

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28–30, The Message

Jesus didn't come to earth to take a vacation, He came to work. He only had a certain amount of time in which to accomplish His mission. He was busy about His Father's business from the age of 12 years old. So when it was time to  choose His disciples, He chose ones that knew how to work and taught them how to do the work of the Kingdom.

Following Jesus leads to work. God did not create us to sit on the couch and watch as He and the angels did all the work. He gives us strength and multiple abilities so that we can produce fruit for the Kingdom of God. That is what we learn when we follow Jesus.

Jesus said to His disciples "Join up with Me, walk with Me and learn from Me because I will show you and teach you how to really work." Discipleship is hands on training. There is no time for laziness in the Kingdom of God.

Even in the beginning when God created Adam, He gave him the task of working and tending the garden. He gave him power, strength and authority to work and fulfill his responsibilities. It required diligence and discipline. It was a job. But God was there to help and supply whatever Adam needed. Adam was God's agent in the earth with a purpose and mission to fulfill.

As we follow Jesus, He is training us as His disciples to finish the work that He started by redeeming mankind. We are to learn how to do the same things that He did by walking with Him daily. We observe what He does and emulate our Master. We watch Him do it and then we do it and He watches us. If we are smart, we will ask Him to give us pointers to do a better job and correct us when we are wrong.

As we grow in our spiritual life with Christ we should be getting more done. Can you agree that this is true in your life?

How can we learn how to work like Jesus?

Say this: Jesus is busy about His Father's business and because I walk with Him and watch Him, I am busy about Kingdom business.

Pray this: "Lord, show me how you work diligently and walk in  rest at the same time. I desire to learn more about the ways that You work. Thank you for giving me insight into producing fruit for Your Kingdom, in Jesus Name."
