“So repent (change your mind and purpose); turn around and return [to God], that your sins may be erased (blotted out, wiped clean), that times of refreshing (of recovering from the effects of heat, of reviving with fresh air) may come from the presence of the Lord;” (Acts 3:19, AMP)
To turn to God is to change your mind and purpose from what you want to do and what you think is right to what God wants to do and what God thinks is right.
Our lives are constantly changing because we are imperfect beings living in an imperfect world. We make adjustments from the time that we are born until the time we leave this earth.
The only thing (or person, rather) that doesn't change is God. He is the only one that is perfect and doesn't need to change.
"Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages)." Hebrews 13:8 AMPC
"For I am the Lord, I do not change [but remain faithful to My covenant with you]; that is why you, O sons of Jacob, have not come to an end." Malachi 3:6 AMP
So in turning to God we turn away from our ways and our thoughts and turn to God's thoughts and God's ways. We change.
This change happens in the place of prayer and through the act of surrender. We surrender our thoughts and our ways and take hold of His thoughts and His ways. We lay down our "way", or we could say that we lay down what we think is right or our opinion. We surrender our right to be right and to think that we know what is best. Only God knows what is right and what is best.
We give up what is imperfect and constantly changing to adapt and adopt what is perfect and eternally right. This change is necessary in turning to God and finding His will, plan, purpose and direction for our lives.
As we turn to God the change happens. The more that we surrender and pray, the quicker and greater the change.
During this time of fasting and prayer, start out each by taking His Word, our Bible and a notepad with pen into a place of prayer. Surrender what you think to what God says in His Word and what He confirms by His Spirit.
Say this: I need to change and want to change. And in order to change I will surrender my thoughts and ways daily to take hold of God's words and ways.
Pray this: Lord, I surrender my thoughts and ways to You. I choose to change today by releasing what I think is right in order to take hold of what You say that is right and just. I turn to You and I turn away from my habits and opinions that I have held on to. Help me examine my heart and mind to remove anything that is not in line with You and Your Word. In Jesus Name
