Prayer Opens Our Heart - Day 7

The word for today is "open".

We must be open before the Lord to begin the examination process. Without being open before God the exam will never happen.

We’ve all been guilty of hiding things from God. We try to keep certain parts of our lives hidden and hope He won’t notice or shine His light on them. We think that if we ignore them, they will just go away. But, Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Nothing is hidden from His sight, so it is important that we remain open and honest before Him.

In this blog post, we will discuss how prayer allows us to stay open and honest before the Lord. The word of God tells us that God looks on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). He doesn’t judge us only by what we do or say, but rather by what is in our hearts. As water reflects a person’s face, so does a person’s heart reflect his inner self (Proverbs 27:19).

Our heart is the unseen part of us. Our soul and our spirit make up our heart. When we pray, it opens our heart so that God can search it to reveal any hidden things that need to be brought into the light.

The Bible also talks about how “the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord searching all his inward parts” (Proverbs 20:27). When we pray, it opens our soul (mind, will, and emotions) to be illuminated with God’s light which is His word, so that He can search our hearts and bring into plain view any things that we have hidden away or just plain neglected. Being open and honest before Him removes the fear of being condemned for our thoughts or actions. God convicts us by the Holy Spirit but doesn't condemn us because He loves us and wants us to change for our good. We need His convicting power.

Finally, when we pray with transparency before the Lord, it gives us an opportunity to let go of anything that has been weighing us down. We carry too much unnecessary care and concern most of the time. Prayer gives us an opportunity to lay down all our cares at His feet and trust Him with whatever has been causing us worry or anxiety. We can know that no matter what it is—big or small—He will take care of it if we just give it to Him in prayer.

Opening up to the Lord is an act of faith and trust in the One who made you. Think about this...Adam hid in fear from the only one that could help him. We don't need to fear and we don't need to hide...instead God wants us to run to Him and come boldly before Him, tell Him everything and receive His grace and help in our time of need.
