Be Still - Day 4

Today's word is "still".

When we are meeting with the Lord and asking Him to examine us, we need to be still and listen intently so that we are able to hear what He is saying.

It is almost like holding still during an MRI when you are in the scanning machine. If you move you will mess up the scan and they have to do it again. It is important to be still.

One of the biggest challenges that we have in prayer is being focused and being still. Psalm 46:10 says - "Be still and know that I am God." I like to say it like this...we can't really know that He is God until we are still. By that I mean that until we learn how to be still in His presence it is difficult to get to know Him.

Another illustration of this is when a grandfather wants to talk to a grandson or granddaughter and they are 2 or 3 years old. And the grandfather reaches down and picks up their grandchild, places them on their lap and within seconds the child becomes fidgety and hops down to run away and play.

Here's another scripture “Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” (Psalm 37:7)

This verse actually points out one huge benefit of waiting in the Lord's presence. When we wait in the Lord's presence, and we are patient, and still, we begin to focus on His goodness and faithfulness. Any worries that we may have or anything that we have been fretting over begin to disappear. We are exchanging our worries for His peace.

There is extreme benefit in learning how to wait and be still in the Lord's presence.

So, this morning, eliminate the distractions around you, grab your Bible, pen and a pad of paper and wait on Him...be still and know that He is God.
