My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. - Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT
If faith comes by hearing, faith stays by meditating.
Don't lose sight of God's word. Keep it before your eyes and keep it in your ears. A continuous stream of the word of God flowing into our hearts serves to solidify our faith.
The word "hearing" is the infinitive form of the verb meaning to hear. It is used in this verse to indicate that we should be in a continual state of hearing. We should put the word of God in us until we hear it ringing our hearts. This is how we become "one with the word of God".
"Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do." - Joshua 1:8 NLT
God told Joshua to continue to hear His word so that His faith would be strong. He used the word "meditate" which really means to "say to yourself over and over again". When you say something to yourself over and over again it means that you want to remember it. And as you are saying it to yourself you are hearing it in your heart.
There are times that we go by the grocery store to pick up a few things on the way home and my wife tells me what to get when I go into the store. I say those items, under my breath, over and over again until I find every last one of them. This is an example of hearing and hearing and hearing.
When we continually hear the word of God, we are fixing our minds on what He has told us and faith is the result.
Meditating the word of God is key to developing your faith.
Say this:
I am hearing and hearing God's word continually. It is always in my eyes and in my mouth. I put God's word in my heart by meditating on it day and night. My faith in God is growing stronger the more I meditate His word.
Pray this:
Lord, Thank you for the Holy Spirit that reminds me of Your word that I have put in my heart. Your words strengthen me today as I meditate on them. I am hearing and hearing Your voice and I choose to focus on You and your promises. Thank you for breathing your life into me and daily feeding me your word. I love your words even more than my natural food and I continue to feed on them over and over today. I am strong in you and in the power of your might. In Jesus Name!
