Search My Mind - part 1 - Day 12

Today's word is mind.

For the next couple of days, we're going to look very briefly the subject of the mind, and specifically how we need the Lord to help us examine our mind in prayer. In fact, our key verse is a prayer from David to God, asking God to examine his heart and his mind.

Psalm 26:2 - Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind.

Our minds are part of our heart which is located in the very core of our being. That hidden man of the heart that can't be seen. Think about this...our bodies are the part of us that we can see and identify with our eyes. But the part of us that we can't see is considered our heart… which is our spirit and soul.

Our mind is a critical part of our soul when we were asking the Lord to examine us. We need to consider our minds how much control do we have over our thoughts? Are we losing the battle of the mind? Have we allowed the enemy to build up negative strongholds in our minds without realizing it? Can we give God permission to show us where we need help in the area of our thoughts? God knows our thoughts, but do we really want to see our thoughts as clearly and honestly as he sees them?

Prayer is the place where we must ask the Holy Spirit to analyze any strongholds that we may be dealing with. In prayer, we come before Him with His word, and expect Him to uncover and unveil where our thoughts may be off target. After coming into his presence, presenting ourselves to him, (which includes our mind) we can begin to make a list of things that are challenging us in the area of anxiety, for instance.

Psalm 139:23 TPT - God, I invite your searching gaze into my heart. Examine me through and through; find out everything that may be hidden within me. Put me to the test and sift through all my anxious cares.

Maybe the thing that challenges us the most is finances, or our relationships, or our job and career.

As we are praying and asking the Holy Spirit to shine his light on a certain area, we should write it down. If He calls it out, we should write it out. The Holy Spirit knows how much time we spend thinking about things that are negative and unproductive.

Remember fear is false evidence appearing real. How many times do we worry about things that never happen?

Take some time today as you're praying and focus on the thing that is most concerning to you right now. Spend some time just being real and honest before the Lord. He will help you and this spiritual exercise does not need to be rushed. Remember, the Holy Spirit does a thorough work when we are still and listening to his still small voice. Most of the time it takes a while to tune our ears into His voice.
