"But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do." - Galatians 5:16–17 AMP
The war wages within us. Will the flesh win or will the spirit win? This is a constant battle that all of us face everyday.
The very thing that entitles us to live on this earth (our body) can be the greatest hindrance to our fulfilling God's will for our lives. Paradoxical, right?
What will win out? The decision is up to us. If we choose to follow the spirit, the flesh loses. If we choose to follow the flesh, the spirit looses. It sounds super simple.
It requires a turning. Turning from the flesh to the spirit.
God made us a spirit being in order to live from our spirit. We are not made to be controlled by our flesh. Saying YES to the flesh never works out right. The reason that it doesn't is because the flesh is selfish. Our flesh has a disease called ME-itus. The flesh is only ever concerned about itself and will do anything to get it's own way.
Our spirit on the other hand was designed to be filled with God's Holy Spirit to fulfill God's will at all times...which is selfless. Living from the spirit will always cause you to think of others before yourself.
Paul the Apostle, said "I crucify my flesh!" and "I die daily". He had to learn how to turn from the flesh to the spirit. In prayer we learn how to identify the flesh and take authority over it by the power of the Holy Spirit. The more that we practice this the better that we become at it. And the quicker that we can turn from walking in the flesh to walking in the spirit.
This year of 2022 is our year for TURNING - we are turning from the flesh to the spirit and taking more and more control over our mind, will and emotions each day. We are led by the Spirit of God.
Say this:
I am a spirit being and choose to be controlled by my spirit. I choose to listen to the Spirit of God within me and do what He tells me to do. I am becoming more sensitive to the Holy Spirit day by day and turning from the flesh so that I can walk in the spirit.
Pray this:
"Heavenly Father, I am grateful that you created me a spirit being with a free will. I use my free will today to choose Your will over the desires of my flesh today. Your Word in me gives me authority over everything in my life. I am a victor and not a victim, a winner and not a winer. I turn from the flesh in every area, In Jesus Name!"
