We Are A Spirit

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23, NKJV)

To understand what it means to believe with the heart we need to first realize that we are a spirit, we have a soul (mind, will and emotions) and we live in a body. What we see on the outside when we look in the mirror is not the real person. It is the hidden man of the heart, our spirit, that is eternal. Our bodies are just temporary homes for us to live in on earth at the moment.

Sounds like a weird science fiction like concept but it is the truth. We are spirit beings that possess a soul.

We actually believe spiritual things with our spirit and not our minds.

The phrase "believe in your heart" is not the same as "agreeing with your mind". To believe with your heart is much deeper than just acknowledging certain natural facts like 1+1=2.

God made us a spirit because He wanted man to be like Him. We are a spirit like God is a spirit. John 4:24 (NLT): For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”  He made us a spirit so that He could communicate with us spirit to spirit.

Matthew 16:16–17 (NKJV): Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Jesus commended Peter for receiving a spiritual revelation directly from God Himself. That could have only happened if Peter was a spirit. Jesus was making a point that we have a direct spiritual connection to God through the Holy Spirit, because we are a spirit.

God created man in His image and likeness. He formed Adam out of the dust of the earth and then breathed His breath into Adam and he became a living being. Spirit, soul and body.

Romans 10:10 (AMP): For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.

Believing with the heart is necessary before confessing with the mouth. To believe with the heart, we don't have to understand everything with our head (or mind).

Say this:
I am a spirit, I have a soul and I live in a body. The real me is on the inside. My heart is the largest part of me. I am a spirit that will live eternally. I believe with my heart.

Pray this:
Lord, thank you for creating me in Your image and likeness. Show  me and teach me what it means to believe with the heart. To trust You with my whole heart. Thank You for communicating with me spirit to spirit. Thank You for the Holy Spirit who reveals spiritual truth to me daily. In Jesus Name!
