Day 4 - He Leads, We Follow

“Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly. “The Father has given me all these things to do and say. This is a unique Father-Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does. But I’m not keeping it to myself; I’m ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”” (Matthew 11:27–30, The Message)

This passage is one of my favorite passages because it shows the heart of Jesus and the relationship that we have with Him and that He has with the Father. To me the Message version makes it clearer with more insight than any other translation or transliteration. (The purpose of a transliteration like The Message is not to translate word for word from the original text but to get the essence of the meaning of the original text.)

There are a number of things that are explained through the words of Jesus here.

1. He is leading and invites us to follow. He didn't come to earth to form a club where He has a bunch of followers, members and fans. He is taking each one of us individually on a journey.

2. He wants our fellowship. He does not only desire a relationship with us but He also wants fellowship. He wants us to follow Him in order to "do life" with Him...His kind of life. He wants to talk to us and for us to ask Him questions.

3. He is going to put us to work. The purpose for Him teaching us and Him explaining to us how to live life like He lives is so that we can do what He did. He worked. He worked the will of His Father while He was on earth. And He shows us how to work...when we follow Him and watch Him.

4. He wants to energize us with His power and ability. He doesn't want us to burn out trying to do things in our own strength or with our own intelligence. He wants us to connect to Him everyday so that He can empower us by His Spirit to do all that He is leading us to do. His grace is our empowerment and His strength working in us.

Following Jesus is a big deal! ...So much to learn and so much to do as we walk with Him through this life. He is inviting us to follow, today. Will we?

Say it: I accept the invitation of Jesus to follow Him today. I will look to Him for answers, strength and peace. I am His disciple.

Pray it: "Lord, Where You lead me, I will follow. I am watching You to learn how to do and say the right things at the right time. Thank you for explaining things to me and giving me Your supernatural strength. I depend on You today!"
