"Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me." Revelation 3:20 TPT
Actually Jesus has already taken the first step by showing up at the door of your heart and knocking. He wants to come into your heart and your life and "feast" with you. The idea of the feasting is to celebrate and enjoy all that the Father has provided for those who answer the call and come to the feast. Jesus is asking us to take our first step of many steps in a rich and full life of following Him.
Taking our first step with Jesus is taking a step of faith into a life of faith. There are many questions that we have when we decide to step out and follow Jesus. What is up ahead? How does all of this work? What now? What just happened to me? And so many more questions.
The bottom-line in walking with Jesus and becoming His disciple is trust. Do you trust Him with your life?... and will you trust Him to take the next step with Him? Trusting Jesus results in obedience to Him. My response to His instruction is "Yes, Lord whatever you show me to do and tell me to do, I will do it."
I distinctly remember the night that I chose to allow Jesus to come into my heart. I was 11 years old and with some friends at a revival service. I followed the instructions of the minister that asked us to bow our heads and close our eyes. He explicitly explained the verse from Revelation 3:20 and as he did, the Lord showed me in a vision what was happening that very moment. It was supernatural. I couldn't explain it, and didn't need to. I just needed to tell someone of my decision and begin to follow Jesus by finding out more about Him from His word and someone who knew more than I did.
Since my parents were not members of a church, I began going to church with my friends to learn more about Jesus. The desire to know Him and know what happened to me continued to grow. I never forgot that first step. It was the moment of decision and change for me. I opened the door and Jesus came in. He had access to my spirit, soul and body. It was the best decision that I have ever made and one that I will never regret.
If you are reading this and have never decided to follow Jesus and allow Him to come into your heart, today is your day. You can do this by opening the door to heart and praying a prayer like this:
Heavenly Father, I do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I believe that He came to this earth and was born of a virgin named Mary. I believe that He gave His life for my salvation. I believe that He shed his blood and hung on a cross for me. He was buried in a tomb, but rose from the dead after 3 days. He is alive right now. I open the door of my heart and invite Jesus to come in and live His life through me. Jesus is my savior and my Lord. Fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I can walk in victory everyday of my life. Show me the next step that You want me to take. - In Jesus Name, Amen.
Now, if you just prayed that prayer, tell someone what you did. You probably know someone that has been praying for you. Tell that person that you just trusted Jesus and gave your life to Him. They will help you take your next step. Welcome to the family!
Say this: I have taken the first step of faith in a life of faith. I will continue to walk by faith and trust in Jesus.
Pray this: Heavenly Father, remind me of the day that I made the decision to follow Jesus. Reveal to me what happened that very moment and remind me of the joy of my salvation everyday. Use me to tell others what Jesus has done in my life! In Jesus name.
