Day 18 - Opening Our Eyes

“I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know him through your deepening intimacy with him. I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling —that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones!” (Ephesians 1:17–18, TPT)

We need to see from a higher perspective. It is through prayer that we can receive the bigger picture and begin to see the way God does. He wants to show us things as He sees them.

The above prayer is a prayer that Paul prayed for the church in the city of Ephesus. It is a spirit led prayer of a Christian for other Christians. So we can use this prayer to pray for ourselves. This is a prayer that we need to pray daily for ourselves and those around us. We need the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

Revelation means an unveiling of something that was not previously exposed. It is like taking the cover off of something that has been covered so that you can see what you haven't seen. God can and wants to do this by His Spirit. He opens our eyes by the spirit of revelation and wisdom. He shows us what we need to see so that we can do what we need to do.

The way that we see things makes a huge difference in how we approach life. When we spend time in prayer communicating with God we give Him a chance to show us things differently. He will take the light of His truth and shine it in dark situations so that we can see that He has already made a way of escape. Seeing with the spirit of revelation causes faith to rise up in our heart. We need faith because we are called to walk by faith and not by sight. If we do not see things from God's perspective then it is impossible to do the things that God wants us to do. This is the reason why it is vitally important to spend time in prayer.

Receiving the spirit of wisdom and revelation is not by accident. We cooperate with the Holy Spirit in prayer to see things with the eyes of faith from the perspective of faith. God will take us to a higher level so that we are not just looking at things from a human or limited perspective. (2 Kings 6:15-17)

Say this: My spiritual eyes are open by the spirit of wisdom and revelation. I see all that God wants me to see today.

Pray this: Lord, thank you for Your Holy Spirit that is the spirit of wisdom and revelation given to me to open my eyes so that I can see like You. Show me things that I haven't seen before so that I can do all that you need me to do today. Use me for Your kingdom and Your glory as I follow Jesus today. My eyes are open! In Jesus name!
