"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.” (Gal. 3:13)
During the time that Jesus was on the cross He was cursed with everything that we could ever possibly face in life. He felt the weight of pain, suffering, loneliness, shame, rejection, betrayal, and much more while hanging on the cross.
When the Roman soldiers were mocking Jesus, they placed a crown of thorns upon his head. In Genesis chapter 3 we learn that thorns were one result of the curse that had come into the world because of sin. Also, while Jesus was on the cross, there was darkness over the land from noon to 3pm (Mark 15:33). Like thorns, darkness at noonday was a sign of God’s curse due to sin (Deut. 28:29; Job 5:13–14; Isa. 59:9–10). Jesus bore the thorns and darkness of our pain, shame and loneliness upon himself at the cross because God wants us to live free from these things.
Jesus bore them and actually carried the weight of all of this so that we wouldn't have to. This is not to say that we don't ever experience pain, shame, loneliness, etc. But we are not to be controlled by it. Jesus says "bring it to me because I will take it from you. I've dealt with this on the cross so that you can overcome it in this life." The great exchange.
Jesus dealt with everything negative that we could ever feel in our soul while He was on the cross so that when it comes against us we can overcome it by the power of His Spirit and the power of His word.
"Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [He was] bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace [was] upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." - Isaiah 53:4-5 NKJV
He carried our sorrows and grief so that we wouldn't have to. He wants to take them but you first have to give them to Him. He will take your pain and sorrow in order to give you peace. But you have to trust Him and give it to Him. Since He carried these things for you, what good does it do to carry them yourself?
The Lord is good, strong and powerful to all those that trust Him. Go ahead and trust Him today. Give Him everything that you have been dealing with in your soul so that you can experience His healing and deliverance.
Pray this:
Lord, I give You everything that I have been dealing with right now. I lay it at your feet and I cast all of my care upon You, once and for all. I leave it with You never to pick it up again. I take Your peace that passes all understanding that guards my heart and my mind. You are my peace and I receive my healing spirit, soul and body right now in Jesus Name!
